Wayne Ripple Effect’s Annual
Scarecrow Show and Contest

ABOUT: Wayne Ripple Effect would like to invite you to participate in our Scarecrow Show and Contest. Each year we invite individuals and groups to design and build a scarecrow using a pre-made frame and LOTS of imagination. Each scarecrow is displayed in downtown Wayne throughout the month of October.  Each entry will have the opportunity to participate in our Scarecrow contests (Facebook, In-Person, and Judges Choice). 

Be a part of the fun this year, channel your inner creativity! Your scarecrow can reflect your mission, organization, business, or your family’s imagination and artistic talents!

We STRONGLY urge participants to register and pay online through Eventbrite. We no longer have a physical location and will need to make arrangements if you cannot register online.

Please read through the Scarecrow Registration Form (Found at the bottom of the page) for rules, dates, and other important information.

You may pick up your pre-purchased frame from Kurt’s Caps (35760 W Michigan Ave, Wayne, MI 48184) during business hours, M – F: 9 AM – 6 PM & Saturday: 9 AM – 1 PM. Please come with your Eventbrite ticket receipt/ proof of purchase. Kurt’s Caps WILL NOT accept any payments or registration forms. If you are unable to pick up your scarecrow frame during the hours noted or are unable to register online, email us at director@downtownwayne.org to make other arrangements.

**Scarecrows are to be dropped off at the First Congregational Church of Wayne (2 Towne Square St, Wayne, MI 48184) on Saturday, September 25th from 8 AM to 10 AM. If you need special arrangements to drop your scarecrow off prior please email us.

Please don’t bring your registration form and payment on the day of drop-off. This will slow down the install process as we have all placards pre-made before the install day.

Due to the increased cost of wood, we have raised our entry fees this year.

Re-purpose last year’s frame for a reduced entry fee of $20. Last year’s participants can re-enter their scarecrow or reuse their frame if they wish. Returning scarecrow creators will still need to complete a 2021 entry form.

Scarecrows must follow the size and weight restrictions. Scarecrows are to be no heavier than 30 pounds. Due to large scarecrows in the past obstructing vision, we are only allowing scarecrows to extend past the width of the frame by a max of 6 inches on each side. They can extend past the height of the frame by a total of 12 inches.

WRE reserves the right to disqualify any scarecrow deemed inappropriate, will not withstand elements, or does not adhere to the required dimensions of the premade scarecrow frame or size and weight regulations. (*Disqualified entries will not be refunded the entry fee)
